We were watching one of the new fall shows last night, “Murder in the Bayou” on Showtime.  My husband absolutely loves true crime stories and we tend to watch many of them over and over again.  Anyway, I learned I could say, “Fall Shows” into our Xfinity remote and boom, there they all were.  I whiled away the afternoon making notes and setting up recording schedules for a whole bunch of them.  “Murder in the Bayou” was one of them.

Now, when Dee, sometimes known as DeeDude (Dennis) gets home from a long day at the office.  He works at, “The Alameda Sun” and is one of the publishers.  He is also very involved in historical activities hither and yon.  He knows a lot of people and is just very busy every day.  It’s not often that he gets a day off, though I think he will be a little slow today.  He got a flu shot yesterday and was feeling pokey last night.  Anyway, he’s busy and when he gets home after work he likes quiet time.  I hadn’t yet had the opportunity to run down all the new shows I’d figured we should have a look at.

I’d gotten 2 boneless pork chops sliced thin cut into strips.  I marinated them in one of those locking baggies with some soy sauce, a little sherry and some sugar and let it sit around for 20 minutes while I chopped the veggies and waited for D to get home.  I stir fried half a sliced onion, a carrot and 2 stalks of celery cut on the bias.  Stir frying is quicker and with a lot of pan shaking on my part than leisurely sautéing.

Oh, and I have to tell you about the sauce.  The guides helped me out with that one.  I’d assembled my usual stir fry sauce ready for when the ingredients were all cooked and ready for it.  You start with half a cup of water and stir in some bouillon.  I used the, “It’s Better Than Bouillon” beef brand.  Just shy of a teaspoonful.  You don’t have to heat the water to get it to dissolve, just stir it in.  I shook in a little sugar, of course checking first for ants.  We’ve had a ton of them around here with the hot weather.  Poured in a little sherry, some soy sauce, a heaping tablespoon of corn starch and was done with it.  I don’t really measure anything anymore.  It fills up the cup measure when it’s done and that’s good enough.  That’s when my guide said, “Add some coke”.  I had poured myself out a Coca-Cola in a glass and had been sipping on it.  Generally, I drink water or water with some flavoring in it, but as a treat and just because it was so blamed hot I had a coke going.  I thought to myself somewhere along the line I had heard of using coke with pork, but couldn’t remember the particulars, so I thought, “Okay.”  And, I did.

Pork Stir Fry

Anyway, once you get cooking the dish comes together in a matter of minutes; I’d say less than 8.  Anyway, I do the veggies first until just barely done.  They still need some crunch.  I put them into a bowl and toss in the pork, marinating liquid and all.  Get that going, add the vegetables back in and pour in the liquid.  You’re shaking the you know what out of that pan.  I use a stir fry utensil, but a spatula would work just as well.  Like I said the whole thing comes together fast.

I hollered, “Dinner’s ready” and we went to the living room to have dinner.  I was surprised to see he already had, “Murder on the Bayou” on.  Pleased with myself that I’d picked out a show I thought he would like and sure enough, he did.

The show is set in Jeff Davis Parish in Louisiana.  We’ve gotten as far as the 2nd episode and to that point eight women have turned up dead in a span of four years from 2005 to 2009.  Nobody has ever been caught, at least, as far as the 2nd episode.

It’s not at all unusual for me to speak with the dearly departed while watching television. And, seeing as how we watch a lot of shows with people who have died, I wasn’t surprised when one of them said to me, “I’m okay.”  What I was puzzled about was why she said that.  I said back to her, “I know you’re okay.”  And, that was the end of the conversation.  Not 20 seconds later her friend who was being interviewed on the show said, “I dream about her all the time.  She’s always coming to me in my dreams and saying she’s okay” when I knew just who I’d been talking to.

That’s what life is like for a psychic channel.
